P2P

 File sharing is different multimedia (music,video,text) to be available for download on a computer network. P2P sharing is when people are on the same computer network have access to share and download files.
Examples of P2P sharing is Limewire,SoulSeek and BitTorrent.

Wiki So Far

So far on the Wiki I started adding to the empty Web Design Page.I plan on discussing different web design trends from the beginning of  the World Wide Web up until now(UI/UX  and Google material design). I plan to add onto the Marketing page,discussing Influencer Marketing,NativeAdvertising,Search Engine Optimization.I plan to add relevant info graphics as well.

Advice

I would suggest to Baruch College to improve the college by using new media to have a facebook and twitter to announce internship and scholarship opportunities.

Privacy

Privacy and confidentiality is related to new media because it is easy for sensitive information to be compromised. Internet companies keep information about their users such as email,gender,age and credit card number.These Internet companies like Facebook and Google also monitor what users search and look at. This information is valuable for advertisers who tailor their advertising campaigns for certain demographics. “Big Internet companies collect information about us, which they deploy in the service of advertisers. Big data brokers, like Acxiom, have developed sophisticated tools that allow them to know almost as much about us as we know about ourselves; they then sell that data to all kinds of companies that want to learn everything from our habits to our health, from our sexual orientation to our finances.(New York Times)”

Creativity and New Media

I have used to Media for creative purposes to create a mashup. I layered two songs of two different genres to create a hybrid work. To do this I mixed the songs live on Rekordbox Dj(or any other digital djing software) and recorded it. The art that accompanied this track is a collage I created in Photoshop from art pictures that existed already.

HW Creativity

New media fosters creativity by allowing people to create and share content without much skill. In the past in order for one to compose a song and have an audience to listen to it  they had to study music and learn how to play an instrument. In the New Yorker article 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 new media allows anyone to create a song without even playing an instrument. Software called DAWs (digital audio workstations) allows people to create music with existing songs. In the New Yorker article people create songs called “mashups” which are two different songs layered on top of each other to create a new song. You don’t need to be a musical genius to create a mashup.
